A few minutes ago a crew member tweeted a sad face. Presumably, this story is why.

it's wednesday, i dreamed it was friday, and it's acting like a monday.  whatever happened to tuesday and thursday?

been getting crap sleep lately, thanks to NaNo for the most part.  except today.  today, the crap sleep mostly came from all the ways i was woken up this morning.  parents moving around 7ish, phone ringing at 8 (just as i was getting back to deep sleep), dryer repairman knocking on the door at 9 (just as i was getting back to deep sleep).  when i woke up again i really hoped i'd be able to go back to sleep, but it was already 10:40, later than i've been waking up lately.  and, since i wanted to run to the library before work, and get to work early, i had to actually get up.  bah.  and my cold/sinuses/whatever it is decided today was the day my nose should start running.  thank goodness the sudafed's kicked in.

also, facebook was full of people talking about their mid-week day off.  grrr.

still ended up running late.  forgot library was closed today (vetrans' day - may veterans everywhere be having a better day).  will have to run by after work to drop off my book.  didn't take the time before work because i still needed to find lunch.  felt like crap, ate crap (mcdonald's).  get it to go, still trying to at least get to work on time since early has failed.  succeed in being a little early, but hardly enough to count.

and then i open my desk drawer.  i'd forgotten i had hot chocolate packets in there, but Hampton the Mouse (who ran under my desk yesterday) noticed.  chocolate powder everywhere, and drops of congealed pee.  great.  so my first half hour of work was spent cleaning out my drawers.  my burger got cold and unappetizing.  i'd really hoped the mouse would stick with my officemate's candy drawer (which he jumped out of late yesterday), but no such luck.  i'm not sure why i named him Hampton.  when opened the door to come in today, that's just what popped to mind.

there are a couple mousetraps set up in here, and i'm horribly worried one will go off while i'm in here.  no sign of him yet, though, so maybe he found his way out.  maybe he'll get trapped at night, adn be long cleaned up before i get in tomorrow.

at least i did well on writing yesterday, over 2000 word.  hopefully i can still keep the daily quote (1667) today, though yesterday was a scene i already had well thought out.  at least i figured out who my spare character is, and how he'll come into play.  and i have possible character death up my sleeve in case i need some drama-induced wordage.  still, being only aroung 17000, i'm nervous about my plot lasting.  oh, well, that's what adding detailed descriptions of everyone and everything can help with later, i suppose.  just...gotta stay awake long enough to write today.

and, dear goodness, now that we have a working dryer again, i must get at least some of my mountain of laundry done before it takes over.  *sigh*

blah.

you can relax on both sides of the tracks

I've struggled for most of the morning to come up with some profound and lyrical way to mark the day, but the words I usually find so easy to command just refuse to reveal themselves ... so I'm just going to keep this post simple and to the point: Thank you, veterans, for your service.

Divination: Activity IV (Term XV) - Reminder

WHAT. HiH. I'm sorry, what. I have gotten zero participants in A Change in Potter~. Lol, were you guys under the impression that this is a hard activity? I would be perfectly happy with a crack drawing in MS Paint and a two-line description of what's happening. That's probably what I'm going to do I mean >.>

I may have to extend this, if we don't get enough people for voting, but there's no reason why we shouldn't get entries by November 13th. You have two full days to enter!

Also, less participants = greater chance of winning, y/y? \O/ Do it as a birthday present to me?

I forsee the Grim in your future if you don't SIGN UP HERE RIGHT NOW

Remember the discussion we had last week regarding the essay about neuroscience in Joss' works? Well the author has now updated his premise and shares his thoughts on Dollhouse.

The Murder Re-Enacted
posted by Neil
The Graveyard Book just won a literary award, which never gets old, and this one came with a medal, and also with a cheque. I thought, Hm. I have to get myself something with the cheque and I have to do it immediately, otherwise it will simply vanish into the day to day bank account of life, and I will never look at anything and go "Ah, that is the thing I got with my Graveyard Book Award."

So I bought this. It's "The Murder Re-Enacted":

It's an E. H. Shepard illustration (he's most famous for illustrating Winnie the Pooh) from Kenneth Grahame's book The Golden Age. Kenneth Grahame wrote The Wind In The Willows, the story of Mole and Rat and Badger and of course, Mr Toad, also illustrated by Shepard.

I once read an essay by A.A. Milne telling people that, of course they knew Kenneth Grahame's work, he wrote The Golden Age and Dream Days, everybody had read them, but he also did this amazing book called The Wind in the Willows that nobody had ever heard of. And then Milne wrote a play called Toad of Toad Hall, which was a big hit and made The Wind in The Willows famous and read, and, eventually, one of the good classics (being a book that people continue to read and remember with pleasure), while The Golden Age and Dream Days, Grahame's beautiful, gentle tales of Victorian childhood, are long forgotten.

If there is a moral, or a lesson to be learned from all this, I do not know what it is.

Right. Off to K.N.O.W. St Paul to record the intro bits to my NPR piece on Audio Books, and I will play the Martin Jarvis-read GOOD OMENS on the car CD player all the way there.

It's pretty good, I enjoyed it :) I like all the nods to the original, and the songs are quite catchy.

Looks cool, but I'm partial to the original.
